What is the latest on the following openings that were officially announced as open varsity positions in girls basketball?
1) Peebles - Stan Doddridge resigned
2) West Union - Chris Snyder resigned
3) Lynchburg Clay - Linda Hatten retired to continue her administrative duties
4) Whiteoak - Steve Smith non-renewed
Any word on who is going to fill these vacant varsity jobs or if they have already been filled? Just wondering!

Just to add to the list....It's expected that legendary Eastern Lady Warriors Coach Richard Kiser is retiring and long-time JV coach John Burrows will take over. The Lady Warriors will be in good hands.
Normally coaching positions are filled duing the first two weeks of May. Next couple of weeks will tell the tale.
Half of the teams in the SHL will have a new commander!!

Tar Heel Fan should be able to answer regarding West Union.
Hoop would be a good hire for Peebles provided he wants the job.
Isn't Chris Snyder from Whiteoak? Any chance he takes the Whiteoak job?
I would expect Lynchburg's jv coach to move up and Lewis to take over JV but that is strictly a guess on my part.

Schneider is from Hamersville. He coached at Whiteoak a few years though.
Best of luck to whoever is chosen at Whiteoak. You're getting a great group of kids.

Solid choice IMO. Give him time and I think he'll have them competing at the top in a couple of years.

With the talent Peebles has coming up it won't take much to get them near the top!

Having talent at the jr high level doesn't always translate to success at the high school level. Eastern Brown doesn't always have great jr high teams but they always seem to be able to blend classes and stay at the top of the league at the high school level.

I agree boomer! Having success at the junior high level and especially the pee wee level does not always translate to high school. Having some success at the junior high level does help in some ways, but it is not always how things will go in high school.

So, here is what we have come up with so far (unofficial of course):
1) Peebles - Vohn Hoop
2) West Union - Shannon Staggs
3) Whiteoak - Still unknown
4) Lynchburg - JV coach or Whitney Lewis
5) Eastern (if Kiser does retire) - John Burrows

I also agree that having success at lower levels doesn't always equate a high rate of it in high school, but looking at solid class after solid class, the coach at peeble regardless of who it is should be able to put together very successful seasons in the near future. I also believe that when you consider the factors of: girls basketball, a league that isn't currently loaded--this group of Peebles girls starting with their Jr. class through their soon to be 7th graders are going to be very good. Now don't misinterpret I think a good coach would go a long way in helping them develop and win. But I have seen, in particularly in girls basketball, teams take coaches pretty far!
I just hope peebles does seek someone qualified enough to make this run the parents and town expect!

Mike was at Western Brown last year and yes, he was at Ripley at some point. (can't remember the years)
Coach Cooper is a pretty good coach and will do a fine job. Congrats to him on getting this position!

Best of luck. Hopefully West Union will recognize that it is going to take time to rebuild the program and will give the new coaches the time and support that is necessary in building a successful program.
