I know Athens takes on Warren next Tuesday and that is the hot topic in town - but come on!!!

The number #6 ranked (DII) and undefeated Lady Bulldogs host the #1 ranked (D3) and undefeated Lady Oaks next Monday. Great match -up. Who wins and why?

Can't wait to see it!

Pretty big game tonight first though ... vs Vinton County (10-4), (5-1 TVC-Ohio).

Now that Athens (16-0) has defeated Vinton County - I think it's safe to talk about the game with Oak Hill (11-0).

One thing I have been impressed with regarding Athens is that it's a much more 'complete' team this year. Sure Dominique Doseck is a terrific player, but the Lady Bulldogs don't seem to be 'built around' just one player. Olivia Harris is a very good athlete and she is great on the defensive end. Hannah Debruin has been playing great basketball this year, both offensively and defensively. Elyse Lutz gives them a senior leader/ball handler in the back court. But what has surprised me is the play of 5'11 senior Mikala Perry and 5'10 sophomore Rachael Gilkey. Gilkey had a great game last night versus VC scoring a team high 15 points, she kind of reminds me of a Lydia Poe. Of course she is only a sophomore - so comparing her to Poe is a little unfair ... but body type, skill set, her soft touch around the basket kind of resembles Poe in a lot of ways. I thought the Lady Bulldogs would struggle in the paint after losing Stanley to graduation last year - but those two young ladies have really stepped up this season.

But as talented as this team is offensively - don't be fooled into thinking they are an offensive juggernaut. Sure they are talented and can score, but it appears to me (after watching their games on channel 15 and seeing them live) that they are clearly focused on - and built around - defense.

Athens is probably 5-10 points better but Doug Hale is the best coach in the district. The Lady Oaks literally win every close game.

Oak Hill 55
Athens 51

The 700 views on this just kills me. This site would be even better if others would actually post.

A lot of people read on here waiting for something potentially negative and then they pounce and attack with full force.

Since you made me feel I have to justify why I clicked on this thread, I'll post. Seriously, the thread reads #6 Athens vs #1 Oak Hill and nothing more. I was just curious to see when it would be played, if it had already been played, who won, etc. Didn't know I had to reply to that.

I hope most people don't view this high school girls basketball forum only for opportunities to bash.

Good luck Lady Oaks.

Easy question. The girls.

You give me the option of picking a team playing at home - or a team playing IN WARREN? Come on now.
