Gallipolis spotted Chillicothe two first inning runs, then came back to defeat the Cavs 9-5 on Memorial Field Friday to remain alive in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League’s South Division title race.

The Blue Devils improved to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in South Division play, moving one-half game ahead of third place Portsmouth (5-3) and one game behind idle Jackson (7-2). The Trojans hammered Ironton, 19-7 Friday evening.

Gallipolis will host Portsmouth Saturday in a makeup game at 11 a.m., on Memorial Field, weather permitting.

JHS owns two wins over the Gallians this spring, but has to come to Gallipolis Monday for another battle with the Blue Devils. GAHS concludes South Division play at Portsmouth on May 2.

Friday evening, Nick Stevens went the distance for Gallipolis. GAHS trailed 2-0 following a half-inning play. However, Gallia came back with three runs in its half of the first, then Stevens blanked the visitors four straight innings as GAHS built up a 9-2 advantage. CHS scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to close the gap.

Seth Dawes went four and one third innings for CHS, giving way to Webb in the fourth rung with one out. GAHS scored four runs off Webb in the fifth to seal the win.

Chillicothe dropped to 5-12 on the year and 3-7 in South Division play. The Cavaliers play Portsmouth at home Monday.
