Southern with 2 points in the second quarter and 3 points in the fourth. Not a great recipe but i think they fix things as time moves on. Caldwell will continue to be a thorn for people moving forward as well.
... I agree dboy , "not in sync" is probably the most diplomatic way to put it ... they looked "tight" to me ... in 16 minutes of play (quarters 2 & 4) in the 2nd period 2 points on 2 FT's and THAT was in the last 10 secs of the qtr ... Southern had 5 turnovers in the period to go with countless misses AT the rim the entire quarter ... Caldwell didn't light it up in the 2nd ... 8 points & 4 turnovers ... the 4th period SHS with 1 fg with 1:24 to play in the game followed by 1/2 from the FT line ... 5 pts in 16 minutes a team SHOULDN'T have an opportunity to get the win BUT Southern DID with 1:44 left in the game they were down 1 ... 37-38 ... at 1:18 on the clock Southern had taken back the lead on their lone fg in the quarter ... 39-38 Tornadoes ! ... the PG for Southern Andre Chandler fouled out ... Brinager went 1/2 from the line ... no one not named Brinager scored in either of quarters 2 & 4 ... Southern in qtrs 1 & 3 scored 35 pts only needing 9 points in the other 2 periods to get the W ... Caldwell's napkin stat line:

3's ... 4/14
FTs ... 7/16 ... less than half their FTs
TOs ... 21 turnovers
... only 10 fgs made in the paint for the game
... 1 fg in transition
... 1 putback for points on offensive boards

... Southern as I said looked tight and as dboy pointed out "not in sync" ... the role players need to score - only 6 points among the 8 players not named Brinager/Chandler ... Southern left a lot of points out there ... I fully expect that they LOOK different in the next outing - relax, play the game as they know how to play ...

Trimble 41 after 3
Will be curious of Pfloyd's take on this one. South Webster about what I expected but Trimble has surprised me a bit. However, the TVC is taking it on the chin today.

dboy ... the Jeeps of Coach Persin & Coach Fenton were as I expected after seeing them in scrimmages in the preseason ... 2 quality perimeter players that can score at all 3 levels - Hunter Barnard/Brycin McClintic putting up 23/30 points Friday vs Trimble respectively ... probably what surprised me some was McClintic on the boards - he has great hands, rebounded at both ends AND when he rebounds on the defensive he IS the outlet as he boards and goes leading the transition break ( he finished at the rim in transition 5 times) ... Barnard the elder is the same - 4 times he finished at the rim in the transition game ... both knocked down a pair of treys ... I was talking to Coach Howie Caldwell just prior to this game - he asked about the big boy for South Webster - Easton Large ... I told him what I knew, what I had seen on film - 6-5 freshman, great hands, great footwork, can score from block to block with either hand ... rebounds well ... can step out a hit the three AND he's a lefty ... Large didn't disappoint! he made me look like I knew what I was talking about - 13 points , 2 putbacks for buckets ... stepped out on the floor to go 1/1 from behind the 3 point line ... I'm a fan of the big boy! as he plays in the paint, seems coachable ... doesn't look intimidated to be playing varsity ... he WILL get tougher inside, learn how to GET POSITION in the post ... I give Mr. Large high marks in his varsity debut ... AND imo SW will get and be so much better as the season progresses once the team learns to TRUST the big boy inside ... in trust I mean - LOOK TO GET HIM THE BALL down low ... Large HAD position on the blocks a number of times but was not even looked at by the ball handler ... if the big man is going to work hard to get the position inside - you have to at least look at him ... with his size down on the blocks and his ability to score to ball he IS going to get a double team which is going to leave the perimeter scorers in great shape to reposition/spot up on the perimeter ... Large has good vision, and passes the ball well - he can kick it out for the shot or if the perimeter people are paying attention - Large will sit down again inside for the return pass ... nothing but good things in the SW offensive future with Barnard/McClintic/Large ... the rest of the role players very good - Barnard the younger (Brayden), solid hardnosed player to go with the other sophs Brigham Burton/Jaheim Froe/Corey Burton/ jr. Cole Bennett ... Sw will put up points this season ... 77 will be a common output ... Trimble was much better than I thought coming into the game - nice athletes and some really good basketball players - Brady Jajczyk a 5-11 junior can play an ANY team in SEOhio - I've like his game since he was a freshman ... Trimble has talent - Luke Orsborne/Paul Sharp/Hunter Brandeberry/Caleb Cahoe all hit three pointers ... can go a couple off the bench ... not much size on the boards (1 offensive board for a bucket) only 10 fgs in the paint ... with that said I liked a lot of what I saw from the Tomcats vs the Jeeps ... I look for Trimble to finish the season better than the End Table preseason ranking I have them ...

Large is a great player and no stranger to competition. I’m fairly positive he’s pitched in some travel ball national championships a times or two.
