Jackson made it all the way down to the 16 before time ran out. Final Athens-21 and Jackson 14.

Lotta mistakes this game by both teams.
Athens defense steps up to the challenge in the 2nd half and allows Athens it's 1st win in Jackson since 1989.
Great offense adjustments at halftime turned the tide against Jackson too.

Good win by Athens. They played a better and more disciplined game.
Nice games by Osborne and Betschel.
Jackson boys will keep improving!
Go get some Burg

First of all, congrats to Athens. They earned the win. Hope they go 9-1 and represent SE Ohio well.
I have to admit that I was pretty off base on what I thought would happen tonight. I expected Jackson's offensive line to control this football game, and quite frankly, they didn't. Not having Spires at center for most of the game was a big loss, I thought. We have to do a better job up front the rest of the season, or our offense isn't gonna do much of anything against anyone. Rafferty, I thought, threw the ball well tonight. He had a lot of nice completions, but his receivers also let him down on some crucial plays as well. We didn't see much of Morgan Landrum tonight due to sickness, but it didn't matter since we didn't get the job done up front anyway.
Defensively, Jackson held an explosive offense to only 21 points. Two amazing INTs by Alec Osborne, and a couple Athens miscues helped that, but I thought we definitely held our own defensively. Burrow killed us with his legs though. When there are so many athletes to account for and so much space to cover, a QB with his ability is nearly impossible to defend completely. He won the game with his running ability.
Definitely another tough loss for the Ironmen. After the Granville game I was encouraged, and thought that the Ironmen were getting a little too much criticism. I think I can admit that I was wrong...a lot of questions that need to be answered in the coming weeks. The playoffs are basically out of the question because of the SEOAL's struggles in the non-conference portion of the schedule, and of course, because the Ironmen didn't get it done the last two weeks. Gotta focus on beating the Burg, and then defending the SEOAL crown.

Looks like I'll be paying up this winter. Enjoy the win...they don't come that often against the Ironmen anymore. :12224593Bulldog wrote:
