I agree, the lineup we had prior to Harrison and Mercer coming back worked well. Just look at our record this past month.

Winning should keep everyone happy, at least in my book.

Infield sarting lineup should be, Alvarez at 1st, Walker 2nd, Kang SS, Ramerize 3rd, JMHO

My thoughts on possible Tuesday call ups...

Remember that if a player isn't already on the 40 man roster and the Pirates bring him up, they must send a man back down. Also, it will be interesting to see how many they bring up at a time and if they gut their AAA club as it gets ready to enter their post season, something the AAA clubs hate.

I think the Bucs go for MLB experience rather than who might have earned it in the way of rewarding future propects for an early look at next year's possible team.

Travis Snyder is a lock for a pinch hit or late inning OF replacement. He is not on the 40 man roster but it makes no sense why they went out an signed him a few weeks ago other than bringing him up for his experience. Somebody will go down and it will be someone on the DL.

Jaff Decker, same reasons as above except he has been on the club all year but currently not on the active roster but is on the 40 man roster.

Tony Sanchez, cather, you need a 3rd cathcer this time of the year and Diaz isn't ready. Neither is on the active roster but on the 40 man roster. Tony has more MLB experience and I think they will try and move him in the off season as the Pirates really want Diaz to make the club next year.

Bobby LaFromboise, another lefty out of the bullpen for more depth. Not on the 25 but on the 40.

Radhames Liz, right handed bullpen pitcher for depth.

Pedro Florimon, SS possible late inning defensive replacement.

Right now my guess is that only the first 3 I listed will be in the dugout Tuesday night in Milwaukee. I don't think you will see a huge influx and most players will come up after their minor league teams season ends and they will only be there if Hurdle thinks they can help the club down the stretch.

Hurdle talks about team chemistry and I think already he is having issues around playing time, especially with Harrison and Mercer. Planco is producing now because he has been told that he is their RF even with Snyder coming back.

Just my ramblings...

I agree for the most part, but do we really need Decker and Snider? Deckers already been up.I think I'd go with Snider,Sanchez and maybe Worley or possibly Liz?

Bucs 9 Cards 3 game 1

Buc starter Happ was outstanding as was the offense.

Cards 4 Bucs 1 game 2

Buc starter Morton was effective but the offense struggles.

Bucs go for the series win and look to gain a game on the Cards in a national Sunday night game. Bucs send out their ace Cole to face Lackey.

Bucs 7 Cards 1

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Pirate starter Cole goes 7IP 0R 2H 7K 3BB with an RBI single.

Bucco bats manage 2 runs thru 7 but go off on the Cards bullpen for 5 runs with 3 dingers to blow open a close game.

Bucs win the series, even their season record vs the Cards to 8-8 and move to 5.5 games back with a 3 game set vs the Cards left to play in the 'Burgh to end the season.

Pirates head to the Queen City for a 3 game set vs the Reds. Game 1 has the Bucs sending out Locke to face DeSclafani.

Every game is crucial at this point in the season. 27 games left for the Bucs and Cubs. The Cards have 26.

Reds 3 Bucs 1

Manager Clint Hurdle lost this game for us. No earthly reason for him to start Rodriguez at SS for the first time this season, 2 costly errors. Mercer and Harrison are healthy to start that position.

Planco with a horrible throw from right field for a run scoring error.

Alvarez another fielding error at first. 19 on the year for him.

Disgusted to say the least says I.

Cubs knock off the Cards so we miss a chance to gain a game on the Cards and we lose one to the Cubs. I bet Cubs manager Joe Madden is putting his best lineup on the field every game and not playing "match up ball" like Hurdle.

Liriano gets the start in game 2. We need a quality start from him and nothing but playoff caliber managing and playing from this point on.

Bucs 7 Reds 3

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Cubs over Cards so we are 4.5 back from the Cards with the Cubs 2 back of us. 3 games left vs the Cards but 7 left vs the Cubs.

Bucco starter gave us what we needed, 6IP 0R 3H 1BB 10K and a couple of hits with an RBI.

McCutchen with a 3 run shot and Kang a solo blast.

No errors from the defense and Hurdle puts out a good lineup.

The only cause of concern is that they brought in Melancon for the 9th and he got charged for all 3 runs. He hasn't pitched for over a week but his last 2 outings have been 1.2IP and 5 earned runs. He may have reached his limit for the year and the arm is tired.

Game 3 has the Bucs sending out Happ to face Sampson. Need the series win.

Bucs 5 Reds 4

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Buccos stay 4.5 back of the Cards and improve to a 3 game lead over the Cubs.

Bucs starter Happ was excellent, 6IP 2R 3H 0BB 10K. Worried about the back end of our bullpen, Watson has a tough inning. Melancon recovered and got his 44th save.

Jung Ho Kang with the game winning RBIs on a grand slam. CANNONBALL!!!

Pirates start an 8 game homestand with 4 vs the Brewers (we owe them) and 4 vs the Cubs.

Burnett returns from the DL for the Bucs in game 1 to face Peralta.

Bucs 7 Brewers 6 F/11

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

After dropping the first game of this 4 game series (7 straight losses to the Brewers) the Bucs win the next 3 and the last one in walkoff fashion to get back to 30 games over .500, 2.5 back of the Cards, 4 games up on the Cubs and the 2nd best record in MLB.

Huge 4 game series starts Tuesday in the 'Burgh vs the Cubs with a DH.

Game 1 Bucs send Cole to the mound to face Lester.

Game 2 its Happ vs Hammel.

Bucs are 8-7 this month. The Cards are 4-8. The Cubs are 8-4.

Pirates have 20 games left in the season and 7 are vs the Cubs and 3 vs the Cards.

Cards have 19 games left with 3 games each vs the Bucs and Cubs. All on the road.

Cubs have 20 games left, 7 vs the Bucs and 3 vs the Cards. 7 of these games are this week.

All 3 clubs are in playoff mode.

Bucs start their final road trip of the season; 3 vs the Dodgers,4 vs the Rockies and 3 vs the Reds.

After dropping the first game vs the Dodgers, the Battling Bucs scratch out wins in the final 2 games, 3-2 and 4-3.

Liriano and Cole deliver excellent starting performances and the Shark Tank closes both games out for the wins.

Bucco bats come through in key situations to generate just enough offense.

Pirates are a MLB 33-17 in 1 run games and they own the 2nd best record in the ML behind the Cards of course.

Bucs are 4 games back of the Cards and currently own a 2 game lead over the Cubs for the top wild card spot.

The goal is and shouldn't be anything else; winning the division. 3 wins and the Bucs are in the post season regardless. Win the division.

Pirates now have 89 wins, thats 1 more than last year and Melancon has a team record 48 saves.

Game 1 vs the Rockies; Bucs send out Burnett to face Gray.

Bucs 9 Rockies 3

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Buc starter Burnett was good thru 4 but struggles in the 5th. Surprised that Hurdle brought him back out in the 6th and he struggled again. Very lucky the Rockies couldn't score again in the 6th or this game may have ended very differenty.

A slew of pitchers out of the Shark Tank finishes of the Rockies.

Bucco solo blasts in the 1st by Marte and Rameriz get things going early for the offense.

Alvarez another error at 1st. This makes 21 on the year. It was simply catching the ball on a perfect throw on the double play. Unreal for a professional.

Cards win #94 (best record in MLB), Bucs win #90 (2nd best record in MLB), Cubs win #88 (3rd best record in MLB). No change in the standings.

Question...when was the last time that 3 teams, in the same division, won 90 plus games in the same season?

Game 2 has the Bucs sending out Happ to face Rusin.

Bucs 6 Rockies 3

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Buc starter Happ is solid again and so is the Shark Tank in relief.

Bucco bats continue to spray it around at Coors Field.

Bucs, Cards and Cubs all win on the same day for the 22nd time this season. No change in the standings.

Game 3 has the Bucs sending out Morton to face Bergman.

Bucs magic number now at 1. A Pirate win or a Giant's loss puts the Bucs into the playoffs for the 3rd straight year.

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

The Pirates clinch a playoff spot on September 23rd for the 3rd year in a row.

Bucco bats continue to dominate the Rockies pitching.

Cards (96 wins) and Bucs (92) win. Cubs (89) lose. 10 games left in the season.

Bucs go for the 4 game sweep as they send out Locke to face Bettis.

Bucs 5 Rockies 4

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Bucs get the rare 4 game road sweep for their 10,000 win as a NL member. Only 3 other NL teams have at least 10,000 wins.

Alvarez makes up for shoddy glove play at 1st with a 2 out, 3 run blast in the 8th for the game winner. CANNONBALL!

Melancon records his 50th save and in his last 9 innings of pitching, he has allowed 0 hits. Thats a relievers no hitter.

Marte ties a club record as he gets 13 hits in this 4 game series.

Bucs head to the Windy City for a huge 3 game set to close out our road portion of the schedule.

Cards won (97) Bucs won (93) 4 games back and Cubs were idle (89) 7.5 back.

If the Bucs and Cubs end the season tied, the Cubs already own the first tie breaker, head to head win loss record so the wild card game would be in Chicago on Oct 7.

You want a ticket for this series? Sorry, sold out. Maybe you can get one out on Waveland Ave in Wrigleyville.

Bucs coming into this game riding a 6 game road winning streak. Took 2 of 3 from the NL West leading Dodgers and a 4 game sweep in Colorado.

Chicago's magic number at 1 for making the playoffs. Any combination of a Chicago win or SF loss punches their ticket.

Game 1 has the Bucs sending out our ace Cole to face Lester.

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

7 road wins in a row!

Bucs starter Cole was an All-star on the mound and at the plate.

Melancon records his 51st save in 53 attempts.

Game 2 has the Bucs sending out Liriano to face Hammel.

Bucs 4 Cubs 0

RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!!!

Liriano dominated the Cubs for 7 2/3 allowing just 4 hits and the Shark Tank closed it out with a perfect 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Light hitting SS Jordy Mercer was offensive as he slammed a 3 run Bucco blast for the game winner. CANNONBALL!!!

Bucs have won 8 straight, all on the road, and they go for the series sweep in a Sunday night national tv game.

Cards win (98) Bucs win (95) 3 back and Cubs lose (89) 8.5 back.

Game 3 has the Bucs sending out Burnett to face 20 game winner Arrieta in the finale.

Cubs starter Arrieata was lights out. Tip your cap to him.

Bucs end the last road trip of the season at 8-2. Outstanding.

Cards lead the division (98) Bucs are 3 back (95) and the Cubs are 7.5 back (90).

HUGE 3 game series tonight starts in the 'Burgh vs the Cards. The division title is on the line.

Game 1 has the Bucs sending out Happ to face Lynn.

Cards 3 Bucs 0

This was a wasted game of scoring chances for the Bucs. 4 times we had bases loaded and couldn't score. 0-12 WISP and stranding 16 runners.

We had their starter Lynn on the ropes from the get go. Our starter Happ was outstanding 6 IP 0R 1H 0BB 4K on 56 pitches!

Cards win (99) Bucs lose (95 4 GB) Cubs win (91 7.5).

Polanco has to field that ball in the 9th. His error led to the game winning score. Unreal.

Bucs must win these next 2 head to head games as the Cards magic number is 2. The goal is still the divison crown. Losing isn't an option.

Hopefully, Cards outfielder Piscotty isn't seriously hurt.

Game 2 has the Bucs sending out Morton to face Wacha who has been tough on the Bucs but has struggled of late.

Even though the Cards are 4 games in front with 5 to play and have the best record in baseball, they are limping into the post season.

Looks like a wet night for baseball but they will try to get this one in even tough both teams have an open date on Thursday.
