Ironton St.Joe 60
New Boston Glenwood 17-1, 11-0 and Division IV #1 in AP poll were facing a very good Ironton St.Joe Flyer team at 13-4, 8-3 last evening.

NB was on "the road again" for the 12th time this season. This time in the "Flyer Dome" vs the homestanding Flyers, on homecoming inside a packed house.

The Tigers led 15-10 after one, St.Joe led at the half 34-23. New Boston rallied from the 11 point deficit to pull within one at the end of three 46-45, then pulled ahead to win 63-60 before a stunned SJ crowd.

Congratulations to the Tigers on winning their first SOC I crown outright since the 1971 season.

New Boston improves to 18-1 overall and 12-0 in league play. St.Joe slips to 13-5 and 8-4.

The Tigers welcome the Western Indians 8-9, 5-7 on 2/7, go to the Minford Falcons 9-7 on 2/11 and play the Notre Dame Titans 5-11, 2-9 on 2/14. The Flyers are at the Rock Hill Redmen 3-14 on 2/4, host the Symmes Valley Vikings 11-5, 8-3 on 2/7, welcome the River Valley Raiders 5-11 on 2/12 and finish the regular season at the Clay Panthers 6-11, 5-6 on 2/14.

Scoring for the Tigers:
Jr. Kyle Sexton 22
Jr. Tanner Voiers 17
Jr. Chase Clark 10
So. Grady Jackson 6
Sr. Marcus Saunders 4
Sr. Malachi Potts 2
Jr. Devon Jones 2

Scoring for the Flyers:
Sr. Ryan Payne 15
Sr. Zach Roach 12
Jr. Jimmy Mahlmeister 12
So. Matt Sheridan 4
Jr. J.C. Damron 9
Jr. Jared Johnson 8

New Boston also won the JV contest 47-27 with ten players seeing action. The JV Tigers improve to 10-8 and 9-3.

I don’t know, Hiland is not the same team they were last year and it appears NB is significantly stronger.

I think this team advances the furthest in SEO

Solid line up and decent bench that gets rotated well. They press all game and wear their opponents down.

And Peebles already beat NB. Berlin is always the favorite

Coming out of the Central they'll see one of 3 teams - Grandview Heights, Wellington, or Newark Catholic. The other teams from the Central are pretty bad. All 3 of these schools could give New Boston all they want and more.

Coming out of the East the favorites are: Zanesville Rosecrans, Malvern, Hiland, and an outside shot is Shadyside but I don't think that's likely. Malvern has an old coach (Tucci) who's been there a long time so his kids know the system well -- they also have a good chunk of talent. I've always liked his teams.

Rosecrans and Hiland are definitely the odds on favorite to get out, though. Both are tough matchups for New Boston.

In terms of the district I only see one team capable of beating them -- and that's Peebles who wouldn't run into them until the Regional Finals. Trimble on a good day might give them a run for their money just due to their discipline but I don't think it's very likely.

New Boston definitely has a great shot to make a serious run, that's for sure.

Second round.

Rosecrans faces #14 Beallsville while Berlin Hiland faces #16 Conotton Valley in the sectional semifinals.

Nonetheless it is a monumental matchup much earlier than anticipated.
