Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) 2025 Discussion/Preview

Post by fball43 »

With basketball season over, its reached a bit of a dry point on here... so lets get some football discussion going early!

The 2025 FAC season looks to be real interesting, here are a few key points I would like to point out.

1. Miami Trace is returning a lot of great talent. Last year they gave Jackson a good game, and overall had a good season, losing in a heartbreaking thriller to St. Marys in the first round of the playoffs 28-24. I expect them to be very good this year.

2. Jackson always seems to be a team that just reloads, and they have great talent in their community overall. I think this year will be no different, and they will be a great team once again.

3. What can be done to save Greenfield McClain football? I just feel bad for that community and those kids.. I thought the future was bright after the 2023 season where they had their first winning season in what had to be YEARS, and their first multiple win season since the FAC was formed in 2017. However, they went back to the Greenfield McClain of old in 2024 and was the leagues punching bag yet again.. since the FAC was formed in 2017 they are a grand total of 3-37 in league play.. is there just an overall lack of talent in Greenfield? I am not sure what can be done to save the Tigers..

4. Washington Court House and Chillicothe where both young teams last year, and it showed at times.. this year they will be more experienced and I expect both teams to be more competitive this year. I think both teams will be making a playoff push this season.

5. Does anyone have it in them this year to knock off Jackson? Jackson has currently won 4 straight FAC titles and has not lost a league game since the 2020 season (Chillicothe beat them in 2 OT). They are currently on 20 game FAC win streak.

Speaking of schedules, here is what the schedules are looking like for 2025:

Frontier Athletic Conference
CHILLICOTHE
1 @ Bloom-Carroll
2 @ London
3 (H) Western Brown
4 (H) Portsmouth West
5 (H) Wilmington
6 @ Miami Trace
7 @ Washington Court House
8 (H) Hillsboro
9 (H) Greenfield McClain
10 @ Jackson

GREENFIELD-McCLAIN
1(H) Adena
2@ McDermott Northwest
3@ Paint Valley
4(H) East Clinton
5@ Williamsburg
6(H) Washington Court House
7@ Jackson
8(H) Miami Trace
9@ Chillicothe
10(H) Hillsboro

HILLSBORO
1(H) Western Brown
2(H) Goshen
3@ Portsmouth West
4@ Williamsburg
5(H) Dayton Ponitz
6(H) Jackson
7(H) Miami Trace
8@ Chillicothe
9(H) Washington Court House
10@ Greenfield-McClain

JACKSON
1(H) Little Miami
2(H) Gallia Academy
3(H) Wheelersburg
4@ Western Brown
5@ Ironton
6@ Hillsboro
7(H) Greenfield-McClain
8@ Washington Court House
9@ Miami Trace
10(H) Chillicothe

MIAMI TRACE
1@ Waverly
2(H) Wilmington
3(H) Logan Elm
4@ Batavia
5@ Western Brown
6(H) Chillicothe
7@ Hillsboro
8@ Geenfield-McClain
9(H) Jackson
10(H) Washington Court House

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE
1(H) Mechanicsburg
2@ Circleville
3(H) Cincinnati Finneytown
4(H) Granville
5(H) Cincinnati Shroder
6@ Greenfield-McClain
7(H) Chillicothe
8(H) Jackson
9@ Hillsboro
10@ Miami Trace

Chillicothe has quite a challenging OOC schedule! Bloom-Carroll, London and Wilmington are all great to good teams... Western Brown has their years and you can never count them out!

Glad to see WCH is playing a much easier OOC schedule. Last years schedule was just way too much for them. I see many winnable games for the Blue Lions this year.

Nice to see Miami Trace and Batavia playing... that will be an excellent matchup.

Jackson and Little Miami? That is an interesting game to say the least.. didn't have that on my bingo card! I wonder if the Ironton game will be more competitive this year..

Hillsboro and Pointz is an odd matchup... but Hillsboro definitely could use a free win in the schedule since the series with East Clinton has ended..

Finally, I just wanted to share my way too early pre-season poll/prediction!

FRONTIER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE 2025 PREDICTION:

1. Miami Trace
2. Jackson
3. Washington CH
4. Chillicothe
5. Hillsboro
6. McClain

I think Miami Trace is returning enough talent that we will see them have a great year, and knock off Jackson giving the Ironmen their first league loss since 2020. I am very high on the Panthers this year! I still think Jackson will have a good season as well.

Washington CH and Chillicothe are neck and neck for me, they could be flip-flopped in the standings. I expect both teams to be much improved.

I expect both Highland county schools to have rough years as Hillsboro looks to gain more consistency in their program with talent, and McClain continues to try and build a program, but they need a lot of help...

Share any insights, thoughts or opinions you have on this upcoming FAC football season!

I have a question for fball43. How and where did you find all of those football schedules? I am compiling local schedules, and want to know how you found them.

There's nothing better than Friday nights and Gridiron Glory.

Just a couple weeks away from scrimmages starting as the summer is winding down. Crazy how fast things go.

How are the teams looking around the FAC?

Anyone have dates/times for scrimmages for any of the FAC teams?

Jackson will scrimmage at Ashland on 8/8 and home against Logan Elm on 8/15. They open with Little Miamin on Saturday 8/23.

I think McClain will be much improved this year with the ability to win at least 5 - 6 games on their schedule. Hudson Lovett will be the captain of the ship this year but look for a much-improved pass game going forward. The sophomore class brings a lot to the table for this group in my opinion; they have always been very competitive through the years. The line will look a lot better with more athletes up in the trenches from last year. QB play is where you will see the biggest difference for the Tigers, and I think they start to turn a lot of heads going forward.

A Saturday game? Will there be a JV game that week? Little Miami and Jackson is such an interesting but very strange matchup.. I wonder how this one came to fruition (aka neither school could find a week 1 game closer to home), but I think Jackson will beat them.

Yes, Jackson should and would be favored.
Little Miami moved to D1 last year and went 1 and 9.
They went 1 and 9 the year before in d2.
They have struggled the last few years, last winning record coming in 2019.
Looking forward to the start of 2025.

I really think McClain will have an up year the next several years with Lovett at the helm. He has some good hardnosed receivers, and we won't count out the fact he can pull it down and run. I still think they struggle against Miami Trace (This year only), Jackson and Chillicothe. However, the others I really see them having an opportunity to win the games. Lovett is one of the best all-around QB's in Southern Ohio and I believe he will be getting some looks in the coming years. It will be interesting to see if McClain can get it over the hump starting this year. The Sophomore class has always been very competitive growing up, with their JV team winning every game last season, I believe their time is coming in there.

Nice to hear McClain has some hope. They’ve been a struggling program for so long, they deserve it. 5-6 wins would be huge for them

How will McClain be on the line of scrimmage on both sides? Having skill players is important but you have to be able to give your QB time to throw and holes for your RB to run through.
