Snoozer, this one will be a blowout, sub .500 team from Pennsylvania isn't what I was hoping to see in this open slot.

Snoozer or not at least they scheduled a game and playing out of state will be cool for the kids. Midland would have been blown out as well.

One of the challenges to being independent is that you end up having to schedule a game like this.

Will see more of these games as scheduling becomes more challenging.

It comes down to incentive. What really is the incentive for schools to schedule IHS?

IHS already plays Burg and Jackson; second and third best programs in the area. And IHS dumped most the OVC teams, so that doesn’t leave many options on the Ohio side in this area.

As for top Ohio small school programs, they are going to be turned off from the distance. Example: MAC schools do not want to travel all the way to IHS for a game when there are many good options closer. Same with Columbus and Cleveland schools.

Big schools in Ohio have little incentive because they can find better games closer to their schools. Plus, what’s the benefit of playing a really good D5 school far away when a decent D1/D2 school is nearby?

And this doesn’t even get into conference play which limits IHS’ options to mostly the first 4-5 games in the season.

Simply put: being independent is very difficult even in an ideal location. For IHS, this problem is going to get worse with Portsmouth joining the SOC, and GA most likely looking to leave the OVC as well.

As somebody who has more knowledge of WPIAL football, I would LOVE to see a matchup with Aliquippa. They have probably been the pound-for-pound best team in the Greater Pittsburgh Area for the past few decades. Both schools are similar sizes and are multiple time state champions. Framing this game as the best of Pittsburgh vs the best of SEO will certainly get butts in seats and will provide a phenomenal challenge for the Tigers going into November and December. Easier said than done to schedule this but this makes much more sense than beating up on a team that hasn't had a winning record since 2009. I know Ironton wants to buff up their schedule so if I'm Ironton's AD, I'm making calls right now.

What’s the incentive for Burg? IHS-Burg is a huge gate. That is the biggest money making game for both schools.

For a school like Marion Local? IHS is not such a big gate for them, especially when fan travel is considered. Can get better payouts closer to home.

And ML has zero incentive to ever play Ironton.

Even though " It's Just ashland".. was always a huge gate and the biggest rivalry in the tri-state, would be nice if a-town stepped up..I've heard rumors that they might, any truth??

The contract was up, and this is what Burg wanted to continue it.

Not sure when the 'mercy rule' kicks in for games in PA, but Ironton should be able to have it by halftime.
Shame the Ironton A.D. couldn't find a better opponent. Uniontown did win 4 games a year ago.
I'll go first on this one. 77-6.
