Re: 11/28 - Miami Trace @ Meigs
Meigs is really soft. They don't defend the paint or even try to rebound on either end. Big man shoots perimeter fallaways. MT scored at will around him in the second half. He had 1 foul.
Re: 11/28 - Miami Trace @ Meigs
I asked him after game about halftime score. He said he goes by the bookkeeper, and he put points down twice on the running score making the score wrongTheOHIOBully wrote: Fri Nov 28, 2025 7:52 pm Great game so far
Refs are on it, only issue score keeper cant get the score correct to save his life
Actual Score

Meigs: 26
Re: 11/28 - Miami Trace @ Meigs
Meigs HAS to find a way to get Carson to inside and under the rim. He absolutely must utilize his size and create easy buckets, rebounds/putbacks. Noticed the coach (his Dad) has him bringing the ball up the court again a lot and hanging around the perimeter far too much. It would have been a battle for him inside going up against Guthrie of MT, but he will be the biggest player on the floor in the majority of Meigs games this season. He needs to play more like a big rather than a guard. If he is able to work the inside (like Guthrie of MT does) he will create much easier and more buckets while also drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. I realize he is a threat everywhere on the floor, but Meigs will not handle good teams like Miami Trace well if they continue to play him like they did last season and the first game against MT. It's no wonder why the Brinager boy wanted to transfer back to Racine Southern. Not only is it his true "home" school, but he wants to be THE guy for the team he plays for. He wouldn't be had he stayed at Meigs with Davis taking the majority of the shots each game. The Marauders will still be a good team and likely win the TVC, but they will miss Brinager big time. He provided so much more balance to the scoring. The Tracy boy for Meigs needs to not be so afraid to pull the trigger whenever he has open perimeter looks. Seems as if he was reluctant to shoot on several open looks Friday night. Davis should touch the ball every offensive possession though. Really would like to see Davis work down low much more moving forward. If he can dominate the post, it will create more open looks for the other guys on the outside with drive and kickouts, etc.Bigtimefan wrote: Fri Nov 28, 2025 9:06 pm Meigs is really soft. I do want to give a big tip of the cap to Miami Trace. They are THE REAL DEAL. I was very impressed with what I watched from the Panthers on Friday. So many weapons. Can hurt you on all points on the floor. You absolutely must double if not triple team Guthrie down low and force him to the foul line, but doing that just opens up other guys and the Panthers can shoot from the outside really well too. The FAC is going to have their hands full with Miami Trace again this season. Even after only watching the first game, I am willing to say Miami Trace may be the best team in the entire Southeast District. No disrespect to any other team. Coach Ackley and staff do an outstanding job. Very fundamentally sound on both ends of the floor. Superior ball movement. Rarely turn the ball over. Good luck to both Meigs and Miami Trace the remainder of the season!

I saw Meigs a few times last year and the big kid refuses to get down on the low post. Wants to shoot 3s all game and not rebound. And his dad doesnt make him or use him that way. Makes zero senseZTPMM88 wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 4:27 amMeigs HAS to find a way to get Carson to inside and under the rim. I’ve got a singular way it makes sense: it is how colleges have told him that they want him to play. Not ideal for winning game by game at the high school level, but that’s more how the game is played at the D1 level now.Logangrad wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 2:00 pmI saw Meigs a few times last year and the big kid refuses to get down on the low post. I would guess that it would benefit those teams to have a kid who could do both though.

I can't imagine a college coach approaching Davis and telling him that as the biggest player on the floor in almost every game he will play, he should hang out around the perimeter.danicalifornia wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 2:29 pmI’ve got a singular way it makes sense: it is how colleges have told him that they want him to play. My guess is that his dad wants him to play that way to help prepare him for college, and Carson probably would prefer to not bang around inside as well. I watched him play twice last year and he was not physical whatsoever in either game.

Big kids who shoot fallaway 3's and don't rebound or defend won't be playing college ball. His height may make him an intriguing prospect but that style of play isn't valuable to any team. On scholarship maybe as a project somewhere small. Passive kids chucking up 3's and jogging down court are a dime a dozen.FACSPORTS wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 5:12 pmI can't imagine a college coach approaching Davis and telling him that as the biggest player on the floor in almost every game he will play, he should hang out around the perimeter.danicalifornia wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 2:29 pmI’ve got a singular way it makes sense: it is how colleges have told him that they want him to play. Miami Trace was impressive. They shoot and handle the ball very well. Their big is a big in the truest sense. Tough in the middle and scored at will. You can run offense through and to him. They dominated Meugs on the boards. They will be even better as the season goes on.

The last several posts are precisely on point with what's going on at Meigs.

Exactly. I'm not sure what college is getting particularly excited about the style of play. I'm thrilled as an opposing coach if I see that kind of size shooting fadeaways. 6'8 in the TVC/Southeast Ohio should fetch an easy 15-20 in the paint alone (with room for outside shooting on top) and double digit rebounds with minimal effort. The complete lack of post play aided the tournament exit last year against an undersized New Lex team. It's just baffling.Bigtimefan wrote: Wed Dec 03, 2025 6:10 amBig kids who shoot fallaway 3's and don't rebound or defend won't be playing college ball. I knew a 6'11 kid many moons ago that was below average offensively but... he was 6'11. Elon was looking at him strictly on size so there is that

Coach Davis is doing his best to get his son on the post, kid played a good game last night against Eastern Meigs. Good post presence will take time to adjust as he likes the perimeter play.
Re: 11/28 - Miami Trace @ Meigs
As far as Carson Davis playing college ball he has already made visits to 2 D1 schools. There are more schools looking at him.
Re: 11/28 - Miami Trace @ Meigs
Unless he played extremely well on the AAU circuit, he’s more likely going D-II if we wants to play much. Based on six games I’ve seen past two seasons.peake71 wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 1:12 pm As far as Carson Davis playing college ball he has already made visits to 2 D1 schools. I dont know his history. Maybe he was a guard somewhere and had a big growth spurt. He is not a post player. His own dad cant get him there. It's like he sees his game as a shooter. He can't guard the post and doesn't want to mix it up inside. He's passive. Has committed 1 foul in 2 games. That's not aggressively defending anything. He doesn't move well enough to defend the perimeter. He's slow and again a very passive "defender".
On offense you would expect someone his size to be aggressive in and around the post. He's does a good job getting a defender on his hip and presents a nice big target for entry. Once he gets the ball. It's almost always a dribble or two (leaving him susceptible to getting tied up or stolen). When he does go strong to the basket he can be effective. Half the time it's a turn away from the basket and a fallback shot. He never follows his own shot. (From anywhere on the court). The shot goes up and he's heading down the court. He does have a decent short from outside but relies on it way too much.
Carson has potential as a face the basket forward if he would more aggressive on both ends. I dont know thaf you can teach that if he's this far along and still needs to be convinced.
He's a lot like a box of cereal. Lol. A nice big flashy box to get you all excited and then when you open it, you find out is only about 1/2 of what you expect. It will be interesting to see how good of a coach Meigs actually has.
