I keep going back and forth on these two teams and have to admit I thought Eastern would win this game. Sounds like Waterford may be getting into basketball shape. I watched their first game and it was a bunch of football players playing basketball.SEOsportchamp23 wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 7:30 am The Eastern–Waterford game last night was an excellent matchup. These two teams really mirror each other well. Eastern’s Lloyd played an extremely clean game, and despite being guarded tightly by both Heiner and Fairchild—and having about three inches on each of them—Waterford’s defenders did an impressive job containing him.
Shooting was Waterford’s biggest hurdle, as very little seemed to fall early on. But Pennock stepped up with some huge shots and finished as Waterford’s leading scorer. The trio of Heiner, Fairchild, and Roberts worked extremely well together on the floor and gave the Eagles plenty of trouble offensively and defensively.
Waterford looks like a team that will continue to improve as they get more time together. Coach Cunningham and Coach Roe are a fantastic coaching duo, and watching from behind the bench made it clear how well their game plan unfolded. Roe especially brings that motivational spark—he coached Waterford years ago, and you can still see his ability to keep players locked in when things get tough.
Even though Heiner and Fairchild didn’t have big scoring nights, they probably played their best defensive games so far, which kept Waterford in it. Pennock showed real leadership on both ends, including taking the assignment on Lloyd at times.
After the tough loss to Eastern in last year’s tournament, I honestly wasn’t sure how this matchup would go—but it’s clear Waterford is moving in the right direction.
Next week brings Southern and Trimble, and those should be great games to watch as well.
Heard there was a serious injury in this game. Any info you can share on that?
