The 16th should be fun when Jackson travels to Miami Trace!

Looks good and I appreciate the work and effort that you put into this each week.

... thanks Hoopie, I've got the North Adams at Peebles game Tuesday night on my short list for the Pfloyd Tour this week ... if I make it down the Appalachian Highway I will stop by and yell at you (in a good way) ...

North Adams has a super soph getting things done. Carson Davis exploding on the scene early in his career with 23 against Hillsboro and 34 I think against Maysville in a final scrimmage before the season.

Thought he would be special when he was really the only non-senior to get big minutes last year for NA. A great start for him

Some massive movement for some teams this week, but hard to criticize much because 1) No explanation isprovided as to why and 2) Nobody has enough information to know much yet about most of these teams. Quick observations:

*Chillicothe rightfully moves up and could be 3rd or 4th
*Gallia Academy up to 9th? Ok, let's see in a few weeks.
*Meigs 17th? What caused a movement down five spots?
*Marietta. From 1st to 15th after winning all three games (albeit two of their opponents not very good at all)? 14 teams better than the Tigers?

Besides Miami Trace, I candidly don't see a very strong region this season. Numerous solid teams but not nearly the quality of most recent years. Other nearby teams such as Steubenville, John Glenn and New Philadelphia all would rank at a minimum No. 2 if they were included in these rankings, and they compete with these teams in the post-season.

I'm not sure I see the Gallia/Waverly rankings staying, but pfloyd has gotten eyes on both and several others as well, so I trust that for now.

Meigs got hammered by Miami Trace (which a lot of teams will) and weren't overly impressive in wins over okay competition in Eastern Meigs and Westfall, so that would likely be cause for a drop.

I'm not so sure how "nearby" schools that are all over 45 minutes away from the closest SE school are, but Steubenville was very impressive last season in their win over Miami Trace.

Hope to see ya there. Gonna be some barn burners in the league this year by quite a few teams. Thinking our Indians have depth and options.

Point is those schools are in the Southeast/East region now which competes together in the post-season. Steubenville is better this season than last. Would be 20-point favorites over all of these teams except for Miami Trace, perhaps only 10-12 points better than them.

Maybe you're right, the coaches son Haney is a really good player, I watched them twice last winter. I just don't see how they could be better having lost a 3x all-state player to West Liberty and a 4 year starting guard (linsly and Big Red), to graduation. Did they add new players? The two they lost were the two best players last year along with Haney.

Understand you're point of view. I can't answer for sure about new people (transfers) or just developing existing program players, but their speed and full court pressure appears to be off the charts. I'll try to find a way to learn more the Big Red this week before they play at home against Marietta on Friday night.

My Father started filming Big Red in 1978, and I continue the tradition. While some of the old tapes have some problems, I have been able to digitize all games up to the current season.

There are no transfers, I don't think we are as good as last year, but we will see. I know Marietta is a good team and this game will be a measuring stick. Santino Haney is a fun player to watch. He went from playing QB in the regional final against Bishop Watterson to two weeks removed scoring 19 in the first period in the season opener against East Liverpool. The team plays well together and share the ball. Cole Bowers, the kicker who is going to play for Army, along with Trey Wiggins are returning starters from last year. I count on both to average about 15 points a game. Sophomore Landon Bowers and Jermaine Moore round out the starting lineup.

... the movement up and down the PRE-SEASON rankings I'll attribute to "Where pfloyd was wrong ..." the preseason is just that - prior to any regular season games being played ... the preseason is based on what I know teams have coming back, observations during the summer, the quality of players returning ... lots of turnover from last season ... these teams for sure are big movers in addition those mentioned in the quoted area - Fairland , Peebles, Adena are other teams that I had pegged wrong in the preseason - after seeing multiple of their regular season games ... they needed to be moved up to better/more appropriate opening week ranking positions ... I was at the Zane Trace vs Waverly game Saturday night - Coach Day for Adena was in the Cheap Seats scouting ZT in preparation for this weeks game ... Coach Day came over and introduced himself, we talked hoops, his team at Adena, etc ... I APOLOGIZED to Coach Day for where I had Adena in the Pre-season , I told him what I'm posting here, "Where pfloyd was wrong" ... Fairland under a new coaching staff has embraced the 2 returning starters Trevor Lochow & Cliff Fransen ... mixed in an outstanding perimeter shooter in 5-10 jr Gerald Love on the offensive side ... the coaching staff of Thomas, Thomas & Thomas preach 32 minutes of pressure D, transition offense, the 3 ball is their friend ... everyone who comes on the floor plays D ... will they keep up the great start?- knocking off Zane Trace AT Zane Trace and a very good Portsmouth West team AT the Rock on the West side ... we'll find out how they show vs Chillicothe on a neutral court at SSU this Saturday night ... Meigs is within range of getting into the Elite 8 - through 3 games they have not compared well to the better TEAMs in the rankings as a TEAM ... I've seen improvement with the 2 W's but they have 4 players, no bench, they will show well vs the TVC - I will be watching all of their non-conference games closely to get a better feel for where they are as a team - Warren visits Meigs Friday night - Warren is all sophs/jrs./2 seniors no one with varsity experience - they played a solid game vs Marietta right up until the youngsters turned the ball over on 3 straight trips up court ... Marietta is not the team I was thinking they would be - not yet anyway - everyone will improve ... they have not looked good vs subpar competition - yes they outscored the opposition BUT watching the games - they don't compare to the teams I have above them in the first official rankings ... Gallia Academy is deep, inside/outside game is very good ... I like what I see , where they are heading ... the lone weakness imo is at the pg position - right now anyway - soph, with tons of potential ... they have scoring at all levels, size & length ... 2 of the best freshmen in the SE District in 6-0 Brody Beaver & 6-5 Colson Miller , BOTH will get nothing but better and better as they adjust to the varsity game ... Chillicothe has held opponents to 32ppg so far this season, they have athletes, scorers , size ... offense will catch up to the defense soon ... Chilli vs Fairland 8p @ SSU Saturday night is going to be fun to watch ... Waverly has all of the pieces - will they stay in the Elite 8? we'll see, what I see from the Tigers is that they HAVE the most important piece in high school hoops - a PG - Kage Alexander... a wing that can score at all levels & finishes at the rim in transition - Teagan Hurt ... a freshman 2 guard that is outstanding now but will get better as he gets varsity games under his belt - Kai Keesee ... they have size BUT they aren't offensive inside weapons - yet - when they get a post game that IS a part of the offense - look out ... Landyn Russell 6-3 jr IS an offensive threat inside but has been out due to injury - returning this month for Waverly ... Southern dropped - they haven't jelled yet, pieces are in place but I need to see scoring from anyone not named Brinager/Chandler ... Fairfield Leesburg - outstanding coaching staff, Friend & Smith are excellent scorers of the ball ... trying to figure out how to get offense on the inside - missing McIntosh "the elder" ... they will be moving up once everyone's roles are set ... teams who I look to move up sooner than later - South Webster, Eastern Brown, Symmes Valley - all 3 have inside/outside games - TEAMS ...

... so far I've seen either eye's on/in person or via online video of their games 43 of the SE district's 71 teams ... I will continue focusing on the 40-45 teams ... heading to the SHAC west of Rte 23 tomorrow night to see Peebles entertaining North Adams ... Peebles is deep, at home a very good shooting team ... North Adams is North Adams ...Coach McCormick will have the youngsters getting better and better each time out ...

... as far as me not giving any "explanation" as to the movement? ...after I posted the Pre-season rankings back on Oct 31st , and began watching scrimmages in the official practice period, I kept waiting for people to question some of the rankings - "I QUESTIONED" the rankings as I watched scrimmages! teams too high or too low (Adena for example) ... no one said anything ... I'm GLAD there is discussion, questioning of the first regular season ranking ... I have my criteria as to what I believe makes a team a GOOD TEAM, a team BETTER than others and teams NOT AS GOOD AS the teams above them ... if I'm wrong - I'm good with that, I HOPE the Southern's/Meigs's/Fairfield Leesburgs's/ etc. keep getting better! I have no issues in being wrong - it won't be the first time or the last ... I DO feel that where teams ARE right now are better positions than the preseason ranking positions ... in the end , it comes down to getting it done on the court and whatever my Ouija Board says ...

... as far as Steubenville, Maysville etc.- the teams in the East District - I don't rank them - sorry, 71 teams in the SE District is more than enough for this almost 70 year old man ... I get what you folks are saying about the level of the SE District Teams not being the caliber of teams that will matchup with teams like Maysville/Steubenville ... anything can happen in the one and done post season ... I have told myself that I am going to get out of the SE district to see Maysville during the regular season - an outstanding TEAM with outstanding individual players - loved watching them at the Convo last year ...

You're seeing a lot of basketball Pfloyd. I've seen Miami Trace, Circleville, Chillicothe, Martietta, Warren, Meigs, Wash. CH., Eastern, Belpre, Southern, South Webster. So not as many as you -- you watched film of Marietta's other two games besides Warren? Are the 43 teams you've seen all regular season games. If so, wow. I'll provide a little more insight after tonight's games and Tuesday's.

SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: Mon Dec 08, 2025 9:38 am Some massive movement for some teams this week, but hard to criticize much because 1) No explanation isprovided as to why and 2) Nobody has enough information to know much yet about most of these teams.

2 if they were included in these rankings, and they compete with these teams in the post-season.
... the movement up and down the PRE-SEASON rankings I'll attribute to "Where pfloyd was wrong ..." the preseason is just that - prior to any regular season games being played ... the preseason is based on what I know teams have coming back, observations during the summer, the quality of players returning ... lots of turnover from last season ... these teams for sure are big movers in addition those mentioned in the quoted area - Fairland , Peebles, Adena are other teams that I had pegged wrong in the preseason - after seeing multiple of their regular season games ... they needed to be moved up to better/more appropriate opening week ranking positions ... I was at the Zane Trace vs Waverly game Saturday night - Coach Day for Adena was in the Cheap Seats scouting ZT in preparation for this weeks game ... Coach Day came over and introduced himself, we talked hoops, his team at Adena, etc ... I APOLOGIZED to Coach Day for where I had Adena in the Pre-season , I told him what I'm post here, "Where pfloyd was wrong" ...

That schedule is even more intense that I could possibly have imagined. How did you get the Marietta-Bowsher game? I couldn't find it on any of the platforms. We'll both keep watching as much as we can and compare notes as the season progresses. Thanks for responding.

Good insights. I’ll weigh in on this Steubenville discussion. Big Red is very possibly headed for a state title. Marietta (3-0) hasn’t played as well as they can so far, but even at their best it will be very hard for them to hang with Steubenville Friday night. I expect a 22-0 season (yes, beating West Virginia state champ Wheeling Central Catholic). Maybe I’m over-cooking the Big Red and of course injuries can matter. But I think we’ll know by the end of the month if they are this good.

Last info on Steubenville for now. They have played two relatively weak opponents but the way in which they play (fast, full court defensive pressure, very balanced talent, multiple excellent shooters) is extraordinary. They were up 17-13 in their last game and went on a 36-0 run and won 84-20. Scored 99 in their first win. Maybe it is too early to declare them the D-III state favorites....but.
