Friday Night's Top Games
Looks like 28 games in the great Southeast tonight. Maybe some pregame chatter on some of the key matchups:
Miami Trace @ Chillicothe: Potential for this one to be a good one. Not sure Chillicothe has been tested yet, so maybe the jury is still out there. Panthers appear to be the consensus No. 1 team in the Southeast. I'll go with MT by 11.
Maysville @ West Muskingum: Something tells me this could be competitive. Does the home court give West Muskingum hope of knocking off Maysville? Maybe, but go with Maysville by 13.
Unioto at Zane Trace[/b]: ]Unioto appears to have experienced a weak schedule to date in going undefeated. Look for the home team to win by 8.
Wheeling Catholic at Marietta: Wheeling Central Catholic won the West Virginia state title last season as is favored to repeat, featuring 6-5 heavily-recruited D-1 point guard Eli Sancomb. Tigers lost to Ohio Division III state contender Steubenville on the road last Friday and play their first home game against a team that may be even better. Only thing to say is Marietta will be the best 2-loss team in the region after tonight. WCC by 15.
Sheridan @ John Glenn: John Glenn typically a brutal place for opponents but Sheridan could give the Little Muskies a game. John Glenn by 10.
Just doesn't seem to be enough traffic on this website lately. Maybe this thread will help. All insights and alternative predictions welcomed!

Unless my schedule and MaxPreps is wrong we don’t play itown tonight. Waterford plays itown
Valley v E Pike is another good one IMO

Marietta pulls out the win tonight after a disappointing performance at Steubenville
Re: Friday Night's Top Games
I can go with this as well. Marietta did not play well at Steubenville without a doubt but I am guessing Coach Gardner had them working extra hard this week. WCC is really good but the Tigers are too. Think it is a close game but Tigers take it at home.Jagros wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 3:18 pm Marietta pulls out the win tonight after a disappointing performance at Steubenville

Re: Friday Night's Top Games
I think Marietta is likely in the top 2 in Southeast Ohio, notwithstanding their ranking by Pfloyd. But to win against Wheeling Central Catholic they will need to: a) shoot well from the field b) make 70%+ of their free throws c) no foul trouble d) no injuries e) hope WCC doesn't play one of its better games. WCC is the defending state champ in WV and has essentially everybody back from a team that easily won the state title game. Marietta can win 18 games or so this season but just don't see how they can get this one.dboy wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 4:35 pmI can go with this as well. Re: Friday Night's Top Games
Am I the only one who thinks Chillicothe is overrated? I believe they are a solid, better-than-average team with no obvious weaknesses to exploit. But if Miami Trace place to capabilities, this won't be that close.mac1984 wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 2:47 pm Miami Trace and Chillicothe looks to be a great game, will it be live streamed?
Re: Friday Night's Top Games
Halftime: Wheeling CC 41, Marietta 31. Score was 30-28 with just under 3 minutes left in the half. Sancomb, W Va Player of the Year, is basically unguardable — 21 points at half. Tigers playing so much better offensively but easy to see why this team is expected to easily win their second straight state title.

86-75 Final. Wittekind fouled out with 5:48 left. Other Tigers with foul trouble.Hookshot wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 8:32 pm After 3 quarters, Marietta down 64-54. Foul trouble hurting big time.
**73-70 game with less than 3 minutes to play. Tigers played their best of the season, but couldn’t stop Eli Sancomb (45 points) or Luke Sancomb (25 points). Eli best HS player I’ve seen in the past 10 years or more in the Ohio Southeast and WV region.

Re: Friday Night's Top Games
Unioto beats Zane Trace, 50-47
Good game. ZT missed a good bit around the basket while Unioto shot it rather poorly from the outside.
Johnson was out for ZT, while Zickafoose played spot minutes for the Shermans
Very physical game on both ends and it took Unioto about 12 minutes to adjust to a team who was going to really compete like ZT does.
Coy, Fitch and Welch were all in double figures for Unioto, while Berry and McCullough were for ZT. Roman Berry has made a giant leap in his game from last season on both ends.

Re: Friday Night's Top Games
Was told a Wheeling CC parent said after the game, "That Marietta might be the toughest team we play all year." I'm not sure Wheeling CC will lose once this entire season. They've got one or two that could get them on a given night. Wittenkind fouled out with most of the 4th quarter to play -- might have been a great finish if he could have stayed on the floor. He had 19 points and had his most effective game to date.Hookshot wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 9:08 pm86-75 Final. Wittekind fouled out with 5:48 left. Marietta didnt get it done tonight but Wheelings 2 brothers are the best shooters in this area plus. Solid

I listened to the game, sounded like a pretty good game, congrats to Miami Trace on the win.SouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 5:07 pmAm I the only one who thinks Chillicothe is overrated? Re: Friday Night's Top Games
And Marietta did a good down shutting down Wheeling's 6-7 2nd team all-state player (held him to like 6 points) but when your opponent shoots 70% on 3-point shots it's tough to overcome.Jagros wrote: Fri Dec 19, 2025 9:42 pm Marietta didnt get it done tonight but Wheelings 2 brothers are the best shooters in this area plus. **Chillicothe battles but loses to Miami Trace by 7. Not sure the Panthers are lights out, but who's going to challenge them? Jackson next week?
**Maysville just buries West Muskingum. A 29-point drubbing. Maysville to make another OHSAA tourney run?
**Unioto stays unbeaten with a 3-point win. Not convinced the Shermans are for real but can't say otherwise at this point.
**Marietta within 3 points with three minutes left and loses to Wheeling CC (W. Va's No. 1 team). Tigers likely to regain respect in the weeks ahead.
**John Glenn wins 70-44 over the Generals. Little Muskies are really good, but this had to be an off night for Sheridan as well.
