Interesting week for Meigs. Marauders could go 3-0 this week or; conceivably, 0-3.

Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
A lot will depend if the 6-3 jr Macen Meadows is back on the court for GAHS ... they've missed his experience, rebounding, scoring since he went down at Waverly on Dec 5th ...

OK, I was trying to encourage some discussion of the three games -- matchups that could go either way -- and the dynamics of each contest (strengths of schedules, status of players, characteristics of the teams involved, etc). I guess it didn't work out as I was hoping. I got you.meatswinger wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 7:25 amThank you both for making us all aware of the possible outcomes for Meigs this week. Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
Meigs has all the talent they could ever ask for but they weren’t smart enough to hire Howie. If they had they wouldn’t have lost that boy to Racine and they’d also be winning all these games that are in question now. They’d also be making deep tournament runs.
Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
So you are saying they made a mistake by hiring one of the best coaches in SEO. First year Coach Davis is there they win their side of the TVC for the first time. If they hired Howie they have no Carson Davis. Davis will play division 1 basketball somewhere. Also you lose majority of your scoring. My understanding is the young man went back to Southern where he was from originally from but not his choice.
Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
Who do you think is responsible for his return to Racine? And yea League titles are nice but nothings like deep tournament runs. That’s what makes Howie so special.peake71 wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 11:05 am So you are saying they made a mistake by hiring one of the best coaches in SEO. 1. Howie
2. Norm
3. Jeff
4. The guy at Warren

Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
So what's your criteria for "top coaches"? Wins. Player development. In-game strategy. Motivational. Scouting/preparing for opponents. Not going to respond to each of your five selections but I think maybe 2 belong in a top five, or maybe one.DUNK1 wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 11:58 am By the way the top coaches in SEO are

Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
Nobody knows the answer, but I wonder what a survey of Southeast Ohio coaches would show in terms of a ranking of the top 5 or 10 coaches in the region? Dunk1 I'd be interested in why you selected the five coaches you did. Not disagreeing with you, just might be an interesting conversation.
Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
Howie and Norm go without saying. Jeff is a Caldwell so maybe a little biased. I’ve always respected the guy at Warren. The guy at Meigs was listed because the person I was responding to claimed he is one of the top so I threw him a bone but wanted him to know the others are better in my opinion.Hookshot wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 12:40 pm Nobody knows the answer, but I wonder what a survey of Southeast Ohio coaches would show in terms of a ranking of the top 5 or 10 coaches in the region? Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
Another post talked about all of the qualities or characteristics that might be applied to ranking coaches. I'm just interested in why one coach or another is automatically top 5 -- is longevity of coaching a factor. Can someone who has been a coach for 4 or 5 years be a top 5 coach, or is length of tenure a consideration here? Don't need to bother with an answer, but I think these are all legitimate factors to consider.DUNK1 wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 1:36 pmHowie and Norm go without saying. Re: Meigs at Gallia Academy
Check Ryan Davis record and you see why I consider him a top coach in SEO. State final four, regional finals, regional semis and district championships plus conference championships. Several all state players first and second team plus honorable mention. And yes I am a little biased.
Some of the ones who played for him are now coaches.
