The Annual End of Year…

Post by Hosey Caadwell »

Most effective coaching techniques:

My top three-

1. The Stomp
2. The Stare
3. The Scream

What are some other favorites?

The Chase

A former Bulldog coach made it famous when he chased the refs off the court time after time

I know a coach that used the old scratch-n-sniff to perfection. He was also apt to use the scream-n-spit technique during face to face coaching moments. But his most effective technique, from an officials perspective, was the face-to-face dragon breath. It was deadly 😩

My family didn’t do much coaching in basketball. We were too busy almost winning the whole thing…..:twice.

But if we did I would have specialized in the slow break and the donut defense.

The “talk them out of playing football” technique has always been a favorite in Racine. In fact it’s been used by all the coaches from the Racine fold when they coached at other schools too. It’s a real game changer.

People like to marvel about Hosey’s stomp and stare and how he inspired players and scared the he11 outta the refs. But he didn’t scare coach T. In fact he couldn’t beat him. Thompson had the smirk and smile that made Hosey have to change his shorts regularly.

So the:

Smirk and Smile

Different sport but I know when our coach came out with those Daisy Duke style tight gray coaches shorts with the pee stains on the front we would run through brick walls. We didn’t win very many games but we made up for it by being undisciplined.

Yes, pee stain in the front with poop stains in the back. The poop stains were extra motivation because we didn’t want to make a bad play and have to stand close to the coach.

We saw that first hand once Kent showed up down here
Once we got him out of coaching football really took off
It also helped that football at GA is such a joke that we got kids to come to us so they could win a few games

Kent brought that Southern mindset of hating football and forbidden weight lifting.

Always a fan of the scowl. Carl mastered it and scared the he11 out of the refs.

Everyone must think Howie started that stomp on the court himself when in reality he got it from Carl Wolfe. Carl used to do the same thing then Howie picked it up...

It always amazed me how much afraid of Howie the refs were in the regular season. He would stomp a few times and then get all the calls because the refs would cower down to him. But it didn’t always work on the road and in the tournament and their fans would cry the blues and blame the refs for every loss because they didn’t get every call. The one old lady would scream and curse at the refs and players from the other team. Crazy people LMAO

Sounds like one he11 of a coach: “didn’t win very many games” and his team was “undisciplined.”

You ain’t telling no lies. If I get the Belpre or Trimble football coaching jobs I’m going to pay Howie to just stand on the sidelines and scare the refs. That’s gotta be worth at least a couple tuddys a game.
